Why do you need to carry out an EICR before replacing my consumer unit?+
An EICR inspection documents the full condition of your electrical installation before any work begins. If we replaced your consumer unit without one and faults were later discovered, we could be held responsible for pre-existing issues. The EICR protects you by ensuring everything is properly assessed first, and protects us by establishing a clear baseline. It is standard professional practice for any reputable electrician.
What is the difference between a consumer unit, fuseboard, fuse box and CCU?+
They all refer to the same thing — the unit that controls and protects the electrical circuits in your property. Consumer unit and CCU (consumer control unit) are the official terms. Fuseboard and fuse box are the common names most people use. Distribution board is another term used in commercial settings. Whatever you call it, if it controls your circuits it's what we replace.
How long does a consumer unit replacement take?+
Most domestic replacements are completed in 4–8 hours on the installation day. Your electricity supply will be off during this time — we keep disruption to a minimum and work as efficiently as possible.
