Underperforming solar?
We find the fault.

Expert diagnosis and repair of solar PV systems across Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk and Kent. If your system isn't generating what it should, we'll find out why — and fix it.

The Problem

Solar systems that underperform

Solar PV faults are often gradual — output drops slowly enough that homeowners don't notice until they check monitoring data or see their energy bills creeping up. By the time a fault is identified, months of lost generation may have already occurred.

We carry specialist testing equipment and are experienced across all major inverter brands including SolarEdge, SMA, Fronius, Fox ESS, Solis, Solax, Sofar, Enphase and Tesla. Most faults can be diagnosed and resolved in a single visit.

We also work on systems we didn't install — from any manufacturer, any era, any configuration.

01

Remote Review

Where monitoring data is available, we review historical generation against expected output to identify when the underperformance started and narrow down likely causes.

02

Visual Inspection

Full inspection of panels, mounting, wiring, isolators, inverter, battery systems and consumer unit connections — looking for obvious faults, damage or deterioration.

03

Electrical Testing

DC and AC testing including string voltages, Voc, Isc, insulation resistance, inverter diagnostics and battery health checks where applicable.

04

Report & Repair

A clear written report explaining exactly what was found and a fixed-price quote for any repair works. You decide whether to proceed — no pressure.

What We Diagnose

Common faults we find and fix

Experienced across all major inverter and battery brands — most faults diagnosed and resolved in a single visit.

Inverter Failure

The most common cause of total or significant output loss. We diagnose and repair or replace inverters across all major brands.

DC Arc Faults

Loose or corroded DC connections cause arc faults — a serious fire risk. We locate and fully remediate all DC wiring issues.

Panel Degradation

Individual panel failure or accelerated degradation reduces string output. We identify underperforming panels using IV curve tracing and specialist equipment.

Battery Faults

Battery management system errors, degraded cells or communication failures between battery and inverter — diagnosed and resolved across all major battery brands.

Shading & Soiling

New obstructions, overgrown trees or panel soiling can significantly reduce output. We model shading impact and recommend the right solution.

Monitoring & Comms

Wi-Fi, data logger and portal connectivity faults leave you blind to your system's performance. We restore monitoring across all platforms.

Tell us about your system

The more detail you give us, the better prepared we'll be. In some cases we can give initial guidance before we even visit. Takes under 2 minutes.

Question 1 of 10
What is the main symptom?
Select the option that best describes what you're experiencing.
Question 2 of 10
What inverter brand do you have?
Check the label on the unit — typically mounted on an interior wall near your consumer unit or in a utility room. Older systems may have the inverter in the loft.
Question 3 of 10
Do you have batteries installed?
Battery faults can mimic inverter or panel issues — knowing upfront helps us bring the right equipment and expertise.
Question 4 of 10
How old is the installation?
Age helps us understand likely fault patterns and whether any components may still be under warranty.
Question 5 of 10
How many solar panels are installed approximately?
Helps us understand the system size and likely string configuration.
Question 6 of 10
Is there a fault code showing on the inverter?
Even a partial code is useful — we can often narrow down the likely cause before we arrive.
Question 7 of 10
Do you have monitoring or an app for your system?
Monitoring data can tell us a great deal about when and how the fault developed.
Question 8 of 10
When did you last notice the system working normally?
This helps us understand whether the fault is recent or has been developing over time.
Question 9 of 10
Who installed your solar system?
This helps us understand whether a warranty claim route may still be available to you.
Question 10 of 10
Almost done — your contact details
We'll review everything and come back with initial thoughts and a diagnostic visit quote. In some cases we can give guidance over email before visiting.

Thank you — we'll review your details shortly.

We'll look over your answers and come back with initial thoughts and a diagnostic visit quote — usually within one business day. In some cases we may be able to help remotely first.

Common Questions

Solar Fault Finding FAQs

How do I know if my system is underperforming?+
Compare your current generation figures against the same period last year, or against the predicted output in your original installation documents. A consistent drop of more than 10–15% warrants investigation. If you have monitoring, check the generation graphs for sudden drops or gradual decline.
Can you work on systems you didn't install?+
Yes — we work on solar installations from any installer and any era, across all major brands of panels, inverters and battery systems. We're completely independent and have no interest in pushing you towards a particular solution.
My inverter is showing a fault code — what should I do?+
Note down the exact code or message. Don't repeatedly reset the inverter — this can obscure the fault history. Fill in our diagnostic form above and we'll often be able to give you initial guidance before arranging a visit.
How much does a diagnostic visit cost?+
We charge a fixed diagnostic fee which covers the site visit, testing and a written report with findings. Repair costs are quoted separately after diagnosis — you're never committed to anything beyond the diagnostic visit itself.
My original installer has gone bust — can you still help?+
Yes — this is increasingly common and we deal with it regularly. We'll assess the system independently, identify the fault and advise on the best course of action. Some component warranties may still be valid directly with the manufacturer even if the installer has ceased trading.
